DIRECTOR of PUBG Mobile Esports of Tencent Games, James Jinho Yang, announced that the PUBG Mobile World League will be held online.
The announcement was made via the PMPL SA Finals broadcast on Youtube.
“To keep the safety of all our players, it was not an option to hold the PMWL offline.
“We needed to find a way to provide all proper network solutions to all the players,” said Yang.
Yang shared that Tencent Games, the official organiser of the PMWL: Season Zero, has conducted thousands of tests and full ranged research, to find a solution to hold World League online.
Some changes are to be made in terms of structure and slot number of the tournament to make it happen.
Due to the nature of the tournament, PMWL: Season Zero will not be regarded as a regular season, but rather as a special season.
The PUBG Mobile World League: Season Zero will be held on 10th July-9th August.
The East League will be held at 8.30 pm (Malaysian Time) while the West League will be held at 3.30 pm (Malaysian Time).
Tencent Games will also be adding a whopping US$850,000 to the prize pool. This is by far the biggest amount for a single event in PUBG Mobile Esports.
With the new format taken place and slot numbers increased, the total number of teams now is 20 instead of 16.
RRQ Athena and Morph Team were awarded the slot to East League as they finished 4th and 5th in the PUBG Mobile South East Asia Finals respectively.
Another team that benefited from the structure change is SynerGE, which was recently announced qualified to the World League East via merit by placing 4th overall in the PMPL South Asia: Regular Season.
